With a commitment to ethical production and artistic integrity, SmithHönig designs and produces a variety of home decor products, working with local seamstresses and small-batch regional manufacturers in the USA and Canada to bring its colorful vision to life. The brand proudly supports the work of other color-loving artists and artisans and their women-owned businesses, and prioritizes sustainability by producing everything in small batches, with many items to order, reducing waste and overproduction. Through every collection, the brand aims to make the world more beautiful—one room, one story, one product at a time.
Founding Story
SmithHönig was founded by interior designer Kellie Smith and artist and constant traveler Melanie Hönig—two creatives who met on a design project and quickly discovered a shared love for bold color, layered patterns, and global storytelling. What began as a client-designer collaboration soon turned into a deeper conversation about interiors that feel personal, collected, and lived-in.
Frustrated by the sameness they saw in the home décor space, they set out to build a brand that embraced individuality and celebrated a more expressive approach to style. Combining Kellie’s design background with Melanie’s artistic eye for cultural detail, SmithHönig was born—a place where color is encouraged, stories matter, and home becomes a place for unapologetic self-expression.

Melanie Hönig is an artist, photographer, and co-founder of luxury home décor brand SmithHönig. The artist behind the brand's original patterns, she transforms the architecture, textiles, landscapes, and cultural traditions she encounters around the world into bold, story-rich designs for the home. Drawing on a lifetime of travel, fine art, and historic influences, her work celebrates craftsmanship, color, and the belief that a home should reflect the people who live there—not the latest trend. SmithHönig's collections have been featured in House Beautiful, HGTV Magazine, Atlanta Home, Designers Today, and other leading design publications. Melanie spends up to a third of each year traveling, gathering visual inspiration that she later transforms into original artwork and home décor collections.
